POSITION: Peer Recovery Specialist (Full Time Regular) (Full Time Regular)

LOCATION:  ICS at South Bay Family Recovery Center – Gardena, CA * this is a field-based position

DUTIES: The Peer Support Specialist utilizes their experiences as a recipient of mental health and/or SUD treatment services to enhance the recovery efforts of clients while serving as a member of a multidisciplinary team that shares practical and personal experience, knowledge and insight related to illness management, life skills, and the lifelong process of recovery. Under the supervision of the ICS Program Director and/or ACT Team Lead, performs peer mentoring and case management functions. Accompanies ICS participants to needed linkages/ resources in the community to provide support and ensure the linkage is made Provide services for clients as a part of the ICS ACT Team using evidenced based practices including but not limited to Seeking Safety, Housing First, and Motivational Interviewing. Attend all ACT team meetings in order to facilitate an integrated, multidisciplinary team approach to service Daily Team Meeting – to organize work for each day and to review recent contact with each client Treatment Planning Meeting – weekly or bi-weekly to develop and review treatment plans/decisions. Provide services with a strong behavioral health recovery orientation, cultural sensitivity, and awareness of the unique needs of the population enhancing his/her ability to remain in the community. To perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act. A combination of education, training and work experience equivalent to the following: Bilingual Spanish preferred. High School Diploma or G.E.D. and at least one year of experience working in a social service setting serving individuals in early recovery. Must have life experience of being in recovery or have had a family member in recovery and be willing to disclose. Training and/or personal experience in substance abuse programs and treatment, relapse prevention, harm reduction, motivational interviewing and 12-Step programs. Must have valid California Driver’s license, reliable vehicle and adequate insurance. Recovering individuals must have a minimum two years clean, sober and abstinent to be considered for employment.
