POSITION: Substance Abuse Counselor III/LPHA (Regular Full Time)
SHIFT: Monday - Friday @ 9am to 6pm
LOCATION: South Bay Outpatient – Gardena, CA
DUTIES: The Counselor III works as a member of the treatment team, coordinating program services, and maintaining the well being of clients and the integrity of the program.
Under general supervision of the Program Director the Licensed Clinician has the responsibility of assessing, diagnosing and identifying the appropriate level of patient care by conducting a comprehensive American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessments and/or an Initial Triage Assessments (ITA) and participate in treatment plan development.
Duties consist of developing and maintaining individualized records of client progress and participation in treatment including admission and discharge, individual group, family, vocational (both individual and group) literacy training, and other occasions as appropriate. Functions as Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA), completing ASAM criteria, and approving treatment plans, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS: Following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Counselor III: Must have completed Master’s Degree (MSW/MFT) and Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) registration. Expected to meet the requirements of Counselor I and Counselor II: Oversee daily program activities, identify a crisis, make clinical decisions, conduct and facilitate specialty groups and capable of training, coaching, and mentoring staff.
LPHA: Must maintain a current license with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). Must possess and maintain a license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage, Family and Child Counselor, or Clinical Psychologist in the State of California. Must have previous experience supervising registered Clinicians. Must have knowledge of laws and regulations related to: Title 22, 42CFR and clients’ rights. Must have knowledge of medical record-keeping and documentation including client charting and Medi-Cal regulations and documentation for medical necessity.
Must have valid California driver’s license and liability insurance if driving personal vehicle on BHS business. Vision, hearing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties. Able to sit at desk, use keyboard, write and physically perform other job duties. Able to move about the facility to observe clients and staff. Specific qualifications may vary based on assignment.
Recovering individuals must have a minimum two years clean, sober and abstinent to be considered for employment.
